ow and then,
something really
important happens.
For us, here at
B+W, the launch
of Leica’s
b&w-only sensor camera, the
M Monochrom, has been big.
Not only is it a superb camera, it
reinforces the fact that black &
white is a contemporary medium
that has vastly increased in
popularity in the last decade.
And now, to be in partnership
with Leica, offering such an
innovative camera as a prize for
our B+W Photographer of the
Year 2012 is very exciting indeed.
It’s interesting how change
comes about – you wake up one
morning and you realise that
what you accept as normal now,
wasn’t normal 10 years ago,
but you didn’t notice the small
changes that went on, one after
another, building what becomes
a major change. It’s happened
with b&w photography, and it
happens all around us, in our
personal lives and in the wider
society, every day, every year.
And perhaps we need to be more
aware of it.
As far as our own photography
goes, change and growth can
mean that we are really alive
as photographers – and by
periodically reviewing our work
we can see where it is going. It’s
all a question of taking the time
to notice…
