photography talk – we each have our own,
very distinctive, style of photography and
consequently our interests are very
different. But there is an area of common
ground that we share – and it has
wonderfully rich and productive soil! Also,
because we have known each other a long
time and have respect for one another’s
work, we can be open and honest – and
there’s nothing like getting a genuine
critique from someone who knows what
you’re all about, photographically
speaking. But, above all, it’s enormous fun
to just talk about photography – and not
just the technical aspect!
I had an email from a reader, Sandy
Wilson, responding to my last Ed’s letter
in which I was trying to figure out what a
portrait really is. He recommended a book
(thank you Sandy!) and went on to say that
he felt there wasn’t enough discussion
about the ‘why and wherefore’ of
photography, and the photographer’s
vision, and what a shame he felt it was.
I couldn’t agree more – we all need it to
enrich our work and to progress. So, let’s
do something about it.
